Proxies offer a variety of advantages to network connections that include more security and a reduction in bandwidth. They are widely used in corporate and educational settings, but you can also configure them at home if your internet speed slows down. You can set proxy settings in Windows 10 through the Settings app or Control Panel. If you’re using a proxy for work or school ensure that the Use automatic detection settings and Use setup scripts are enabled under the Automatic proxy Setup section.
Open the Internet Options window by clicking on the Control Panel icon or by typing “Internet options” into the Search bar. Click the Advanced tab and open the LAN settings. Enter your proxy provider data in the Address and Port fields. After that, check the box Use proxy server for your local area network, and close the Internet Options Window.
Sometimes, malware can interfere with your settings for a proxy server to prevent you from being online. If the error “Windows could not automatically detect this network’s proxy settings” persists you should run a scan with an anti-malware software and see if it can help.
If the error continues, you can try resetting your proxy settings via the Registry. Be careful, since altering the Registry can cause irreversible damage to your system. We suggest making backups prior to proceeding with this method. To do this do this, press the Win + R keys simultaneously. Enter cmd, then press Enter. This will launch the standard Command Prompt.
